Petrified in the darkness

Petrified in the darkness
of an infancy so near
when fear was a bat
fluttering on the roof,
an army of reptiles
filing through the rooms.

Today there are other fears
so help us precarious courage
under the lamp
that is always lit.

Petrified in the darkness

Petrificados en la oscuridad
de la cercana infancia
el temor era un murciélago
aleteando en el tejado,
un ejército de reptiles
paseando por los cuartos.

Hoy que otros son los miedos
nos asiste el valor precariamente
bajo aquella lámpara
siempre encendida.
