THE POETS INSIST

               The poets
               after silence
               insist
               on not taking the hint.
And then the world turns its back on them
once again,
burying them among applause
and rusty anthologies
while there continues
               merrily
the bloody banquet.

The poets insist.
Say the same thing again.
Don’t surrender.
And that is the danger.

LOS POETAS INSISTEN

            Los poetas
            después del silencio
            insisten
            en no darse por enterados.
Y entonces el mundo les da la espalda
una vez más,
sepultándolos entre aplausos
y antologías herrumbrosas
mientras continúa
            alegremente
el festín sangriento.

Los poetas insisten.
Vuelven a decir lo mismo.
No se rinden.
Y ese es el peligro.
