The words are coarse and strong
The words are coarse and strong.The dogs lie low and the children
are afraid. On the table the
untouched meat
is rarer than ever,
the milk whiter than usual.
Outside the dustmen go by and shout,
the rubbish bins are empty and in the
kitchen their hearts are immeasurably heavy.

De woorden zijn grof en sterk
De woorden zijn grof en sterk.De honden houden zich koest en de kinderen
hebben schrik. Op tafel is
het vlees dat niemand aanraakt
bloediger dan ooit,
de melk bleker dan gewoonlijk.
Buiten komen de straatvegers voorbij en roepen,
de vuilnisbakken zijn leeg en in de
keuken zijn de harten oneindig bedroefd.
