Biography
Fiston Mwanza Mujila grew up in Lumbashi, but has long since lived in Graz, Austria, where he teaches African literature at the university. Though he originally wrote in French, he has now more and more started to write in German. In 2014, his debut novel, Tram 83, was a breakthrough success. The rights were sold to more than 15 countries, it was longlisted for the Man Booker International and the Prix du Monde, and it was awarded the Prize for Contemporary Literature in Translation of Berlin’s Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
