Flavio Santi

A great ice-cream shop

A great ice-cream shop
emerges inside me
with tables wrapped
in colorful cellophane
the smell of rennet
the slavery of sorbet at all hours:
but the best I dig it out for myself
in the vein with a metal spoon,
I feel tenderness
softness the more I press
downwards, I feel that
I will never satisfy my hunger
with its helpings.

A great ice-cream shop

Una grande gelateria
si delinea in me
con tavolini fasciati
di celofan variopinto
l’odore del caglio
la servitù del sorbetto a ogni ora:
ma il migliore me lo scavo
nella vena col cucchiaio di metallo,
sento morbido
soffice più premo
giù, sento che
mai mi sfamerà
con le sue porzioni.
