Attached to the rock bed

Attached to the rock bed, egg strings see through their glassy casing
their parents, just under the water’s surface, looking at the stars.
They are longing, the children sense. But for what?
The egg strings nudge each other hopefully: soon, we too will go out longing.

Aan de rotsbodem gehechte eiersnoeren

Aan de rotsbodem gehechte eiersnoeren zien door hun glasachtige schaal
hun ouders vlak onder het wateroppervlak naar de sterren kijken.
Zij verlangen, vermoeden de kinderen. Maar waarnaar?
De snoeren stoten elkaar hoopvol aan: nog even, dan gaan ook wij uit verlangen.
