EAGLES
ADELAARS
Twee adelaars cirkelden boven Cambridge vandaag, een unieke verschijning, schitterend
tegen de leigrijze lucht.
Tot staren gedwongen, zag ik al snel
dat ze in haast volmaakte cirkels rondgingen
met gelijke snelheid.
In feite leken ze volkomen identiek.
Hun wijd gespreide vleugels trilden niet eens.
Ik hoorde een zacht elektrisch gezoem
en vroeg me af of ze kleine
bewakingscamera’s aan boord hadden
die konden scannen wat ik las:
‘Shakespeare en het pathos van de uitweiding.’

EAGLES
Two eagles circled over Cambridge today,a rare sight, lovely
against the chalkboard sky.
Drawn to stare, I soon noticed
that they went around in near-perfect circles
at even speed.
In fact they looked exactly identical.
Their widespread wings didn’t so much as flutter.
I heard a thin electrical whiz
and wondered if they carried
tiny surveillance cameras on board
that could scan
“Shakespeare and the Pathos of Rambling” that I was reading.
