Poem
Ann Jäderlund
And the sea gave back the dead. Those who had been thrown into it. But
And the sea gave back the dead. Those who had been thrown into it. Butnot that which had been killed in them. The beheaded got their
heads and souls back. And those who had chopped each other’s
hands off had got them back. And the devil who had tricked them
was burned on a stick. And he who had not been
recorded in the book of life was now forever. Recorded in it.

En de zee heeft de doden teruggegeven. Die erin waren geworpen. Maar
Och havet gav tillbaka de döda. Som hade kastats däri. Men
inte det som hade dödats i dem. De halshuggna fick tillbaka
sina huvuden och själar. Och de som hade huggit av varandra
händerna fick tillbaka dem. Och djävulen som hade lurat dem
blev uppbränd på en pinne. Och den som inte hade varit skriven
i livets bok blev nu för alltid. Inskriven däri.
