THE MEMORABLE EARTH (FRAGMENT VI)
“The force that through the green fuse drives the flowerDrives my green age”
Silently my blood
pushes on an eternal
murmur of stars.
The world throbs in me,
what lives talks to me
out of its throbbing,
and I listen.
Life stirs
in the humus,
it returns light
from the dead leaves.
Water, night, earth or bird:
I am alone,
in front of the miracle,
and I cry.
Never will I have the words
to return the light given me.
For I go from the living miracle
to the dead children,
to the broken miracle.
“ . . . that blasts the roots of trees
Is my destroyer”

“La fuerza que por el verde talloimpulsa la flor impulsa mis verdes años”
Silenciosamente empuja
mi sangre un eterno
rumor de estrellas.
El mundo palpita en mí,
lo que vive me habla
desde su pálpito,
y yo lo escucho.
La vida se agita
entre el mantillo,
devuelve la luz
desde las hojas muertas.
Agua, noche, tierra o pájaro:
yo estoy solo
frente al milagro,
y lloro.
Jamás tendré palabras
para devolver la luz donada.
Pues yo voy del milagro vivo
a los niños muertos,
al milagro roto.
