Another poet came into being
Another poet came into beingwhen I saw the life of life,
the death of death:
the child I had birthed.
That was my beginning:
blood burning the groin,
the soul soaring, the baby wailing
in the arms of a nurse.

Toen ik het zag kwam er voetstoots
Toen ik het zag kwam er voetstootseen dichter bij op aarde:
het leven des levens, de dood des doods,
een baby die ik baarde.
Zo moest het worden, mijn begin:
de schaamstreek brandde, de geest
zweefde, de boreling krijste in
de armen van een verpleegster.

когда увидела я
жизнь жизни, смерть смерти –
рождённое мной дитя.
