Reality
This is gentleness, not the rhetoric of gentlenessThis is tedium, the sheer fact of tedium
Ah! Prospects, readings, about-faces
All of these things are so slow
Through long nights, the harvesting is not done out of necessity
Through long nights, the speed should be left out
And winter could just as well be summer
And Lu Xun could just as well be Lin Yutang

Lu Xun (1881-1936) is considered to be one of the greatest Chinese writers of the twentieth century. Lin Yutang (1895-1976) is a renowned prose writer. After his move to the United States in 1936, he published many books on China and Chinese culture in English.
