Tonnus Oosterhoff, geboren in 1953 als zoon van de kapelaan van een provinciaals ziekenhuis, studeerde Nederlands aan de Universiteit van Groningen. Oosterhoff, die beschouwd wordt als een van de meest toonaangevende hedendaagse dichters in Nederland, woont op het afgelegen, noordelijke platteland waar hij schrijft met uitzicht op ‘een dijk (7 cm), lucht (155 cm)’.
