THE EPHEMERA

They fly over the currents

of an invisible ocean
that one takes for infinite,
diverse kinds of ephemera
of inconsistent form.
Then the principle of contradiction
is exposed,
since this brief dominion lasts
but a day or two,
ephemeral as the name says.

EENDAGSVLINDERS

Ze vliegen op de stromingen
van een onzichtbare oceaan
die ons oneindig schijnt,
diverse soorten eendagsvlinders
van onbestendige materie.
Ze zijn het levende bewijs
van het principe van de tegenspraak,
hoewel hun korte heerschappij
maar een dag of twee duurt,
zoals hun naam al aangeeft.

EFFIMERE

Volano sulle correnti
di un invisibile oceano
che si suppone infinito
le diverse specie di effimere
dalla forma inconsistente.
Si manifesta allora
il principio di contraddizione,
benché duri soltanto un giorno o due
questo breve dominio,
effimero come dice il nome.
