My body is quiet as a fall of snowmy spirit, a stream
I remember those who passed by here once
crossed the line of light in the sky
and never came back again
I remember them and meditate on the grandeur of the sun
I remember them and listen to the wonder of the breeze
I remember them and touch the silence of the stone
I remember them and I can see my pain turn into a ball of cotton
blown away on the wind

Nazand Begikhani was born in Iraqi Kurdistan in 1964. She has been living in exile (Denmark, France and currently the UK) since 1987. She took her first degree in English language and literature, then completed an MA and PhD in comparative literature at the Sorbonne.
