Poem

REMEMBERING A GRANDFATHER
From John Henry Whitea student of Oxford,
to Don Juan Henrique
the founder of Dabeiba,
extends a geography
of names and dreams
wherein an indigenous sap
yields clear-grained wood
and the America
that this soil is
there thrives a most perfect root
to keep alive the line
of that foreigner’s love.

RECORDANDO AL ABUELO
RECORDANDO AL ABUELO
Desde John Henry White, estudiante de Oxford,
hasta Don Juan Henrique,
fundador de Dabeiba,
crece una geografía
de nombres y de sueños
donde un árbol indígena
da sus claras maderas
y una tierra de América
su más perfecta entraña
para guardar la huella de amor
de un extranjero
