Poem
Halyna Petrosanyak
The peacefulness of unfamiliar landscapes heals an infirm consciousness . . .
The peacefulness of unfamiliar landscapes heals an infirm consciousness.
Only now I’ve learned the value of silence once despised.
The unexpected warmth of a foreign shelter in the Bohemian mountains
(the triumph of far-off distances). The sign of silence is like a gift.
I outline terra incognita onto the motley map
of my lands: the climate, the fauna, the flora, the flow of its rivers . . .
And the waves of these mountains will break apart on the azure shore of the sky,
and the smoothness of familiar plains will pass forward in the distance.
