GOGOL

I’m reading Gogol. He’s the best.
He talks of love and death,
and says people are small
and poison each to all
and still, despite all that,
this life’s not to be sneezed at.

Ik lees Gogol. Hij is groot.
Hij spreekt van liefde en dood,
en dat de mensen klein zijn
en voor elkaar venijn zijn
en dat, trots alles, dit leven
nog hoog staat aangeschreven.

Richard Minne counts among Flanders’ most respected poets, but also among its loneliest. The latter should be taken both literally and figuratively: Minne stood alone with his poetry and spent the better part of his life alone.
