From Chapter O
Uit Hoofdstuk O
Woord op woord ploft z’n poot op ’n rol. Bol ofstok, krom of hol, vormt ’n spoor, voort, voort.
Woorddons vormt ’n cocon voor comfort. Woordvocht
dropt door kloof of hol. Voor schooljoch vormt woordsop
grondstof. Mop volgt woordoorsprong, blokt op woord-
opkomst. Boor zo door! Soms slopt woordtocht spoor-
loos, soms bonst woordpoort op slot, doch noch droom-
stond, noch schorspoos lokt ’n groot bolboos.’n Prof
op Oxford wrocht nors colofon vol logo’s, Ottoons
pronkkolom of rococolok. Stooft postdocsloof ’n
glosjob voor Wordsworth. Woord loodst ook lol:
woord scoort sport, golf of ’n pot polo, motorsport
of go. Zo, jong of op, slokt ons soort woorden op.
From Chapter O
Loops on bold fonts now form lots of words for books.Books form cocoons of comfort – tombs to hold book-
worms. Profs from Oxford show frosh who do post-
docs how to gloss works of Wordsworth. Dons who
work for proctors or provosts do not fob off school to
work on crosswords, nor do dons go off to dorm
rooms to loll on cots. Dons go crosstown to look for
bookshops known to stock lots of top-notch goods:
cookbooks, workbooks – room on room of how-to
books for jocks (how to jog, how to box), books on
pro sports: golf or polo. Old colophons on school-
books from schoolrooms sport two sorts of logo: ob-
long whorls, rococo scrolls – both on worn morocco.
