The Photocopier

Tomorrow when I die
I’ll stop being black
and after a little (apart from my blackness)
I’ll return to the world transformed
as a photocopier.
Moreover, and pay attention!
None of this Xerox, Canon, or Nashua!
Only Japanese crazies
can call their machines
the names of birds.
I’ll be a copy machine
and I’ll fly like a bird.
I’ll copy the whole world,
I’ll jump up spewing it from my mouth,
shitting it out if necessary!
Copies and copies -
I’ll immortalize one and all
in a copy.
Copies and copies!
Bringing it all out of my mouth and
my skin and taking the whole world
in a copier’s laugh.
In art and in literature,
I am a photocopier;
this is my life: a copy of one
of higher quality that proceeded it.
Everything is higher quality
than one’s own life!
I only want to invite the word
so that language won’t just be a flow
of insult in the mouth of mankind.

Let language be a flower like Paquita,
spying from the top of the wall!

Let language be a girlfriend, not unattainable
because you don’t have a car!

La fotocopiadora

La fotocopiadora

Mañana cuando me muera
dejaré de ser negro
y al ratito (por sobre mi negritud)
volveré al mundo convertido
en una fotocopiadora.
¡Mas, atentos!
¡Nada de Xerox, Canon o Nashuas!
¡Sólo la locura japonesa
puede ponerle nombres de
pájaros a las máquinas!
Seré una máquina copiadora
y volaré como un pájaro.
Copiaré al mundo entero,
soltaré eructando por la boca
y cagando ¡si es necesario!
copias y copias, a todos
y a todas los inmortalizaré
en una copia.
¡Copias y copias!
soltando todo por la boca y el cuero
y llevarme al mundo entero
en una risa de copiero.
En arte y literatura
soy una fotocopiadora;
