Poem
Hubert van Herreweghen
Poetry
Poetry comes from on high,
with the rain and the sun,
from the planets, the moon when it’s out,
poetry comes from the ground,
with the snails and the flowers,
(which we know too little about),
poetry comes from that eye
from where love songs have begun
a mouth’s tremble with no sound,
amazement at simple things,
what’s there and ready and sound,
simplest of all is what beauty brings.
It humbles the word’s naming powers:
they don’t touch it, just circle around.

Poëzie
Poëzie
Poëzie komt uit den hoge,
met de regen en de zon,
van de maan en de planeten,
poëzie komt uit de grond,
met de slakken en de bloemen
(waar we niet genoeg van weten),
poëzie komt uit die ogen
waar het liefdeslied begon
en de beving van een mond,
de verbazing om ’t gewone,
wat daar staat, gereed, gezond,
’t allermeest gewone is ’t schone.
Nederig mag het woord het noemen,
’t raakt het niet, het draait er rond.
