Poetry Week 2025:

Celebrate the Power of Poetry!

Poetry Week is the largest annual poetry promotion campaign in Flanders and the Netherlands. What began in 2000 as Poetry Day, an initiative by Poetry International, has evolved into an entire week dedicated to celebrating poetry. This week unites poets, readers, schools, libraries, and organizations to share and honour the beauty of poetry.

From Poetry Day to Poetry Week

Since 2000, the last Thursday of January has been celebrated as Poetry Day. Initially, a single day where a poet would create ten poems around an annual theme, its overwhelming success led to the launch of Poetry Week in 2013. The first Poetry Day collection was written by Toon Tellegen, followed by celebrated poets such as Hugo Claus, Tom Lanoye, Remco Campert, Judith Herzberg, and Antjie Krog.

Theme for Poetry Week 2025: ‘Embodiment’

From January 30 to February 5, 2025, we celebrate Poetry Week under the theme ‘Embodiment’. This edition focuses on the physical, tangible, and sensual aspects of poetry. Poet Charlotte van den Broeck has written an exclusive collection of new poems, which will be bundled into the 2025 Poetry Gift—a must-have for every poetry enthusiast.
