Viviana Ávila Alfaro is a lecturer in Spanish and communication, with a master's degree in linguistics from the University of Chile. She is a doctoral candidate in Latin American studies at the same university, where she researches taboos surrounding menstruation. She published among others the essay La mató por amor and the poetry collection Nosotras, las otras. Ávila is part of the collectives AUCH+ and Colectiva Gacela and teaches writing and communication at the University of Chile and the University of O'Higgins.
