Mustafa Stitou

Mustafa Stitou (1974) is a poet who connects the personal with the political and the mythical with the everyday in his work. He was born in Tetouan, Morocco, grew up in Lelystad, and lives and works in Amsterdam. In 1994, he debuted with Mijn vormen. This was followed by several acclaimed collections, including the award-winning Varkensroze ansichten (2003) and Tempel (2013). His most recent collection, Waar is het lam? (2022), explores the meaning of sacrifice in poetically layered and philosophical verses. Stitou was the city poet of Amsterdam in 2009 and received the A. Roland Holst Prize in 2018.
