Joke van Leeuwen (1952) is a writer, poet, illustrator, and performer. Her work moves effortlessly between novels, poetry, and children's books and has been translated into several languages. With her playful, poetic style, she knows how to touch both young and adult readers. Her novels, such as Feest van het begin (AKO Literature Prize 2013) and Hier (2018), have received much praise. Her children's books, including Toen ik (Zilveren Griffel 2018), have also been widely praised. In addition to writing and drawing, she regularly performs with her work.
