These are the 100 poets participating in the Bombing of Poems
Poetry International proudly announces the names of the 100 poets whose work will rain down from the sky on May 14, 2025, over the Binnenrotte in Rotterdam during Bombing of Poems. This unique poetry event, marking the 85th commemoration of the Rotterdam bombing, brings together 50 Dutch and 50 Chilean poets in a unique tribute to peace and reconstruction. Who are the poets?
The evening will present a carefully curated selection of 100 poems by 100 poets: from local Dutch poets to Chilean voices. The international approach emphasizes the universal character of poetry and its ability to transcend borders and cultural differences.
Dutch poets
Among the Dutch poets contributing to Bombing of Poems, you'll find both established names and emerging poets. Former Poets Laureate of the Netherlands such as Anne Vegter, Tsead Bruinja, Lieke Marsman, as well as the current Poet Laureate Babs Gons are part of the 100 poets. The Rotterdam city poets will also fall from the sky: Jana Beranová, Hester Knibbe, Derek Otte, Elfie Tromp, and the newly appointed city poet of Rotterdam, Benzokarim. Additionally, there are poets such as Simone Atangana Bekono, Ellen Deckwitz, Anna Enquist, Radna Fabias, Marjolijn van Heemstra, Joke van Leeuwen, and Edward van de Vendel. They all represent the rich literary landscape of the Netherlands with their diverse styles and themes. Their work touches on themes such as identity, memory, and social change, fitting the reflective nature of this event.
Chilean poets
The Chilean contribution, selected by the artist collective Casagrande, is characterized by poets Cecilia Vicuña, Yanko González, Micaela Paredes, and Óscar Barrientos. These contemporary voices build upon Chile's rich poetic tradition and bring modern perspectives on themes such as collective memory, social change, and cultural identity. Their poetry, together with that of their Dutch colleagues, forms a powerful international dialogue.
