ONE WHO SPEAKS TO THE ABSENT

one who speaks to the absent
how deep his conversation
he sings for the benefit of one
who is completely oblivious that he exists
he exposes himself in his nakedness
to one who does not look
how entranced the listeners
by this divine music
not knowing that it was not intended for their ears and not
grasping that this is merely its echo
it is the magnificent speaker
who gives them birth
his mouth in the dust
his soul trickling inward as it expires
he recites the blessing over slaughter
restrains the flow
the constant lover
is never loved
in his dream he is remembered
and when he opens his eyes
no one comes
one who speaks of the absent
his nature nothingness
he sits alone in the gloom and sings
and when the darkness stirs
he is not rushed
