The girl opposite me has switched off her device

The girl opposite me has switched off her device but leaves the plugs in her ears. She gives me a weak smile as if she recognizes something but directly turns away and looks outside. She hasn’t seen me. She was just about to get off. Below her throat a blush is blooming as if she is suddenly aware of something that must have been there unseen for some time. That looking becomes seeing is not inevitable. You need to switch off a gaze to do it.

The ubiquity of music can no longer be rolled back.

Het meisje tegenover mij heeft haar apparatuur uitgeschakeld

Het meisje tegenover mij heeft haar apparatuur uitgeschakeld
maar de dopjes in haar oren laten zitten. Kort kijkt ze me aan met
een flauwe glimlach alsof ze iets herkent maar direct wendt ze
haar blik af naar buiten. Ze heeft me niet gezien. Ze bevond zich
al op de drempel. Onder haar hals bloeit een blos op als wordt ze
ineens iets gewaar dat er ongezien al enige tijd moet zijn geweest.
Dat kijken zien wordt is niet vanzelfsprekend. Je moet er een blik
voor uitschakelen.

De alomtegenwoordigheid van muziek valt niet meer uit te bannen.
