ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT
If we’d been more useful, our bellies greenish-blue globes, our hearts the motors (bright pink, lonely), our hands
taped up by gods, moved on strings to greater things
and if we’d been portable (handle at the top) imagine
how much better, how much more – if we’d just
been transparent, losing the lines, we’d have understood better.
We’ve put our faith until now in a mouth and two eyes
but this has no face, it doesn’t need one.
It is how it looks and leaves you behind.
We are stuck in what we signify, unable to rise up
and float, we are used to our limited movement.
We will not become something meaningful, may have been it before.
Absent. Brightly detailed. Stripped of inconstancies.
Something completed with you, for a moment,
as first witness.

MENS BLIJFT STAAN
MENS BLIJFT STAAN
