Mthakathi Wezigodo
Wasivelela ngaphi?Izizwe zonke zikhala ngawe
Intandane ziyanda,
Abafelokazi bangamangcwaba,
Besaphila.
Ukhukhuza umuntu
Aze asale esengamathambo
Umuntu kasela simo sakhe
Kasakhangeleki,
Ngoba wangena,
Wakhukhuza,
Wabulala abanengi
Umhlaba kawunoni,
Ngabe sewanona ngawe,
Izigidi lezigidi zikogoqa nyawo,
Konke kungenxa yakho
Aids zinuke amakhwapha
Uzwele intandane.

This is a poem about HIV and AIDS. ‘Mthakathi’ means murderer, witch or wizard – the word depicts evil. The poet uses a second person narrator to question the origins of AIDS and why it has killed so many.
