LILAC
After Kafkahad corrected
“A Hunger Artist”,
but before Dora rushed out
to look for the flowers
she wanted him
to feel the scent of
before it was too late,
he scribbled
on a piece of paper that he
“had felt such a desperate
need for water, to feel
gigantic mouthfuls of water”
stream past his ruined
larynx,
knowing full well that
the dying don’t drink water
“but that only
certain flowers
drink as they die,
not to mention lilacs,
that continue
to drink
afterwards as well”.

SERING
Nadat Kafka“Een hongerkunstenaar”
gecorrigeerd had,
maar voordat Dora naar buiten ging
om de bloemen te zoeken
die ze hem wilde
laten ruiken
voor het te laat was,
krabbelde hij
op een papiertje dat hij
“zo’n vreselijke zin
in water had gekregen,
gigantische hoeveelheden water”
langs zijn aangevreten strottenhoofd
wilde voelen stromen,
zich terdege bewust dat
stervenden geen
water drinken
“maar dat alleen
bepaalde bloemen
drinken terwijl ze doodgaan,
niet in de laatste plaats seringen,
die zelfs daarna
nog doorgaan
met drinken”.

SYRIN
Etter at Kafkahadde rettet opp
«En sultekunstner»,
men før Dora for ut
for å lete etter blomstene
hun ville at han
skulle kjenne lukten av
før det ble for seint,
var det at han skriblet
på en lapp at han
«hadde fått sånn vanvittig
lyst på vann, kjenne
gigantiske munner vann»
strømme forbi det oppspiste
strupehodet,
vel vitende om at
døende ikke
drikker vann
«men at bare
enkelte blomster
drikker idet de dør,
for ikke å snakke om syrinene,
som fortsetter
å drikke
også etterpå».
