Yang Lian Set To Spook New Readers

Yang Lian has published a new selected poems in English entitled Notes of a Blissful Ghost.
Yang Lian burst onto the Chinese poetry scene in the late 1970s as a member of the Today group. This volume traces his poetic career from 1982 to 2001 and is the most comprehensive and representative collection of Yang Lian's work to date. Yang was awarded the Italian Flaiano International Poetry Prize for Poetry in 1999. His collection of poems Where the Sea Stands Still (1999) was recommended for an English translation prize by the British Poetry Association. The translator, Brian Holton, has worked closely with Yang Lian since 1992, and is also the translator of Yang's Non-Person Singular (1994). He is currently Assistant Professor of the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Notes of a Blissful Ghost is published by Renditions.
