Reading celebrates Mang Ke's poetic achievement

January 18, 2006
Mang Ke, pioneer co-editor of the Today! poetry magazine and one of China's best-known and influential poets from the late 1970s, has been feted in an event called "Sunflower in the light", a major reading of a lifetime of poetry held in Shanghai on February 9 at the Momo Workshop.
The event, according to PoetryLife, was hosted by the Shanghai poet Momo, and began with a reading by Mang Ke of his own extended poem-sequence, "The Timeless Time" [Meiyou shijian de shijian], originally written in 1987. This was followed by readings of a selection of some of Mang Ke's most popular poems by poets, novelists and artists, including Momo, Liu Manliu, A Zhong, Yan Li, Huang Shiji and A Zi. Speeches by the critic Sun Qin'an, Yang Hongsheng, Sun Wei'an, as well as the internet poet Xiaoyu'er, were also presented to an audience of over one hundred people.
