Shelley’s atheist letters found
A lost series of letters by Percy Bysshe Shelley in which he masqueraded as a clergyman to try to persuade the recipient to become an atheist has been found, reports the Daily Telegraph. The letters were part of a campaign by Shelley and by his fellow atheist Thomas Jefferson Hogg that led to their expulsion from Oxford University. The letters will be auctioned at Christie’s in London on June 8.

Surrealist Poetry generator
Surrealist Poetry, a project launched on Speakers Corner on February 1, creates poems by randomly mixing together text-based newsfeeds taken from online news sources. The poems are directly displayed on a 15 metre lcd screen in Huddersfield, Great Britain. The Speakers Corner website also allows visitors to send in their own texts online or by mobile phone.

Honorary doctorate for Zephaniah
British poet Benjamin Zephaniah has received an honorary doctorate from the University of Central England for his literary achievements, The Guardian writes. Zephaniah, who famously {id="316" title="refused an OBE"} in 2003, is known for his performances and his left-wing politics. The University of Central England, based in Zephaniah’s home city of Birmingham, said in its citation: “Through his unique style his poetry could be heard on stage, through music, on public demonstrations and on television. This ability to perform and make his work accessible has made him Britain's most filmed and identifiable poet.”

New Poetry Press
Charlie Wright, the wealthy son of American art patrons Virginia and Bagley Wright, is to start a poetry publishing house in Seattle – for profit. The press is expected to bring out ten books a year, focussing on “mid-career American poets,” the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports. “You come to it with a different mentality if you aren’t asking for grants and donations,” Wright said.
