Poetry translation project open to all levels
In Other Words 2018
February 12, 2018
With 'In Other Words', Poetry International invites lovers of poetry, language, and translation to translate work from the poets who will perform at our upcoming festival. You will find their poems online on March 1st. This year’s poetry selection ranges from English, French, Spanish, German, and Burmese, to Portuguese, Occitan, Arabic, Swedish and Dutch. You can translate them into Dutch or English, or opt for another language altogether.
Participating in 'In Other Words' is completely free of charge. You can start when you’re ready, and work at your own pace. After you have completed your registration (for which we will send out invitations and make a social media announcement at the beginning of March), you will receive a password that allows you to look at and choose from the poems that are available for translation.
You will also receive an email inviting you to sign up for a workshop session – with the poet and their professional translator in attendance – to be held on Friday June 1st, during the Poetry International Festival in Rotterdam. There you will be able to discuss poetry, talk about translation issues you ran into, and brainstorm possible solutions. For each session a maximum of 15 spots are available, so don't hesitate to sign up! REGISTER / In Other Words on Facebook

This means it’s also time for a new edition of the translation project 'In Other Words'. At Poetry International, translating poetry is not just reserved for professional translators. Translators of all levels can try their hand at the poems that we have selected for the project. You can choose to translate these poems on your own, or as part of a group.
