January 18, 2006
Following in the footsteps of British poet laureate Andrew Motion, distinguished playwright Harold Pinter has published a poem criticising the US for its warmongering.
The poem, ‘God Bless America’, was published for the first time in The Guardian last Wednesday. It pictures an America keen on war - "The Yanks in their armoured parade/ Chanting their ballads of joy" - while the rest of the world suffers: "And all the dead air is alive/ With the smell of America's God."

Two weeks ago, British poet laureate Andrew Motion also published {id="290" title="an anti-war poem"} in The Guardian, titled ‘Causa Belli’.
