Ter Balkts characterizes his work as 'farmer's poetry'.
H.H. ter Balkt (1938) has been awarded the most important Dutch literary prize, the P.C. Hooft-prize 2003. Ter Balkt initially published as 'Habakuk II De Balker'. Ter Balkt will receive the prize on the anniversary of Hoofts (1581-1647) death, the 21st of May.
An edition of his collected poems was published in 2000 by De Bezige Bij. In 1998 Ter Balkt already received another important prize, the Constantijn Huygens prize for his entire oeuvre. The P.C. Hooft-prize has now been awarded by a jury consisting of four prominent poets: Wiel Kusters (chairman), Pieter Boskma, Elma van Haren and Erik Menkveld. Formers winners of the P.C. Hooft-prize for poetry are, a.o. Eva Gerlach (2000), Judith Herzberg (1997), J. Bernlef (1994) en Elisabeth Eybers (1991).Ter Balkts characterizes his work as 'farmer's poetry'.
