According to a report from the Poemlife website, a poetry reading featuring a total of 20 poets will be held in the city of Guangzhou on 23 November.
The reading, jointly organized by a local newspaper and a real estate company, will highlight the talents of one of the most important contemporary figures in Chinese poetry, Shi Zhi, as well as other leading writers including Xiao Kaiyu, Liang Xiaobin, Hei Dachun, Huang Canran, Lin Mang and Yin Lichuan. The Dutch China scholar and poet Maghiel van Crevel will also participate in this event. Readings will be given in a variety of languages and Chinese dialects, including Mandarin, Dutch, Cantonese and Sichuanese, and it is hoped that this event will help promote wider interaction between poets and poetry-enthusiasts based in different parts of the country, as well as help enhance the influence of poetry in Chinese society.
