New Poetry by Chen Kehua
Renditions 58 Now Available
January 18, 2006
The most recent issue of Renditions, the premier Chinese-English translation magazine, has just been published.
No. 58 contains a wide variety of literature, including Chinese ci lyrics, the Ming erotic novel A Tale of an Infatuated Woman, excerpts from the late-19th-century novel Shanghai Demi-monde by Han Banqing, as well as modern works of fiction by Ding Ling and Zhang Kangkang. It will also include four poems by Taiwanese poet Chen Kehua. Chen, born in 1961, is one of the few poet-ophthalmologist currently writing on the planet, and these texts belie a gentle, although idiosyncratic, Buddhist influence. His poems are translated by Simon Patton.
