Winners Zimbabwe poetry competition announced

A tenth winner, Anesu Mapako, subsequently withdrew from the competition and the project.
The poems were judged on their freshness, wit, insight, imagery, alliteration, assonance, rhyme, rhythm, simile and metaphor as well as their performance. Each of the winning poets received US$50 for their poems, except for the poet of the overall winning poem/performance, Christopher ‘Vokal da Poet’ Chiwanza, who received a prize of US$150.
Back in March Poetry International held a poetry competition in collaboration with Magamba and Shoko. We can now officially confirm that the winning poems will be published in an upcoming issue of Poetry International (Zimbabwe) in September 2014, each accompanied by an audio performance.
