The contents of each new issue will be shown at the top right section of the home page. In addition, all previously published material will still be accessible via our Poets' archive, and in the individual sections of the countries themselves. Here, on the international domain of the website, news, poets' diaries and other articles will continue to appear in the course of the month. You will be informed about these in our newsletter.
As a result of these changes, we can now present to you, in our January issue, no less than ten new poets, from countries as diverse as Colombia, Germany, Italy, Morocco, Portugal and Zimbabwe. From the playfulness of Kerstin Hensel to politically conscious John Eppel, from Moroccan classical influences to the hermetic verses of António Franco Alexandre, there is a wealth of poetry here that we can only be proud of.
Finally, we'd also like to draw your attention to a new {id="4045" title="translation"} (published on the South-African domain) by Nobel Prize winner J M Coetzee of {id="4001" title="Cees Nooteboom's"} poem 'Bashõ'. The piece, taken from Coetzee's recent collection Landscape with Rowers: Poetry from the Netherlands, is published on PIW with kind permission of the translator.
"In the beginning there was light, then/ blue sky, for light is absorbed/ in the layers of air we see." These first lines, taken from 'Song of Genesis' by new Portuguese poet of the quarter Fiama Hasse Pais Brandão, could serve as a motto for Poetry International Web in 2004. For the start of the new year, traditionally the time for changes and new beginnings, also sees PIW take a new direction.
From now on, PIW will present all new poets of the quarter in a monthly magazine, to be published on the first of the month. This means that each month, you will be able to read a large number of new poems, biographies, interviews and essays from five or six different countries at once. And as PIW continues to expand and encompass more countries, these monthly magazines will grow richer and more diverse. The contents of each new issue will be shown at the top right section of the home page.
