AMAI CHIDO
AMAI CHIDO
AMAI CHIDO
Amai Chido, my wifewhen you are tired of dancing before the minister
when you are tired of chanting slogans
and brandishing placards
when you are tired of attending rallies late into the night
and putting on slogan-branded apparel
please come home, I need you
by my side.
the children have since grown lawless
my nights have become too cold
the homestead itself has become too dirty
the crops are dying unharvested
the livestock has scattered in every direction
I know you are fighting for a noble cause but when
you are tired of trading insults with your opponents
when you are tired of tearing down
opposition strongholds
when you can no longer stand the battering,
the hiding and fighting
when the hype and the adrenalin is finally over
please remember me, my love
the children and I need you home
Amai Chido.
