Armando wins VSB prize for Dutch poetry

Last night, in an awards ceremony at the Utrecht townhall (in the Netherlands), artist and poet Armando was awarded the 2011 VSB Poetry Prize, an award for Dutch and Flemish poetry. The 81-year-old received the prize for his collection Gedichten 2009 (Poems 2009).
The other nominees were Paul Bogaert, Eva Cox, Kreek Daey Ouwens and Henk van der Waal. The jury selected the five nominees from 159 collections published between 1 January 2009 and 1 September 2010.
For the first time, the awards ceremony took place this year on the night before Poetry Day. Poetry International was one of the organisers of the event.
