In 2024, Poëziecentrum Gent and Poetry International Rotterdam will again organize the largest annual poetry festival in the Netherlands and Flanders. Poetry everywhere, in schools or on the streets, in bookstores and libraries, on stages and social media, radio and TV. Poëzieweek 2024 starts with Gedichtendag on Thursday, Jan. 25, and runs through Wednesday, Jan. 31, focusing on the theme "home. Author of the always inspiring Poetry Gift is Edward van de Vendel. Week Theme: Home
Poetry Week 2024 is dedicated to the theme of home. Together with poets, spoken word artists, slammers and songwriters, we will build large and small houses in poems that week. We come home to cities or countryside, move from region to region in verse, and enter new and familiar places in vivid letters. Poetry can celebrate, welcome and make people feel at home. Poets describe the places of our youth and the streets of our dreams, building a new home out of memories, smells and colors. They write their poems on the corner of our kitchen table with their ears to our walls. The most beautiful words often emerge in the place where we feel most at home.
Edward van de Vendel
Poetry Gift Collection
As author of the annual Poetry Week Gift Collection, Edward van de Vendel is one of the figureheads of Poetry Week 2024. He writes poetry end novels for children and adolescents, picture books and non-fiction. Well-known collections are Ik juich voor jou (2012, Gouden Poëziemedaille) and Wat je moet doen als je over een nijlpaard struikelt (2019, Zilveren Griffel, Gouden Poëziemedaille) from which he read at the Nacht van de Poëzie. He received many nominations and awards for his collections and books.

Poetry Week is the biggest annual poetry festival in the Low Countries. With activities in many bookstores and libraries, poets and poems at school and poetry in buses, streetcars or simply on the streets, everyone from young to old can be inspired by the most beautiful poems. In addition to literary organizations, individual poetry lovers, companies and the media are also turning out this week with surprising poetry in unexpected places and moments. On poëzieweek.com the coming weeks the list of activities that will take place between 25 and 31 January will grow.
