Welcome to Zimbabwean poetry - April 2004

January 18, 2006
In this new edition of the Zimbabwe magazine of Poetry International, we are very pleased to introduce {id="5760" title="Musaemura Zimunya"}. This selection of poems has been chosen by the writer and critic Kizito Muchemwa, who has also written an {id="5737" title="introductory essay"} exploring the depth and the range of Zimunya’s published work.
Zimunya, like many other Zimbabwean poets, writes in English but he uses the language to explore and comment on African tradition and the landscapes of his birthplace, Mutare. The lyricism and hope of his early work is slowly displaced over a decade by a more sombre, even satiric, note as he reflects upon the disappointments of the independence years, and the loss of hope in the country that he loves, Zimbabwe.

The next issue of the Zimbabwean magazine will appear on July 1.
