This weekend, the renewed and rejuvenated Geen Daden Maar Woorden Festival (GDMW) will take place in Katendrecht, in Rotterdam. With all activities centered on and around the Deliplein, the festival focusing on words will feature an enticing mix of performances by young literary talent, with poets from the Netherlands and abroad, spoken word artists and singer-songwriters, alongside films and musical theatre.
Poetry International particularly recommends you the poetry and spoken word program, for which we acted as a programming adviser. The young American writers Erika Meitner and Matthew Dickman will perform, as well as spoken word artist Lemn Sissay, from the UK, who was the official poet of the Olympics in London in 2012. The English writer, poet, radio and tv host Karen Hayley will also be attending. The Dutch will also be well represented: poet Frank Koenegracht, who was awarded the Anna Blaman Prize in 1990 and the Frans Erens Prize in 2001, will be reading his work, while actor and singer Frans van Deursen, will be singing Leo Vroman’s poems.
