Welcome to German poetry - July 2003

January 18, 2006
Probably there is something like a global language of poetry but naturally it must be based on the regional differences. No poetry can get rid of its tradition completely. Poetry is a precise instrument to recognise the inner relations and movements in the respective language. And not only in the German language.
Although there are a lot of modern poems which seem to require some kind of theoretical support, there is no conclusive theory which can replace what every poem has to prove by itself: the expression of an authentic experience of language and the world.

From my point of view the poetry scene in Germany, especially in Berlin, is on the rise. Since the hype of the "literature of the youngest" blew over, the critics have realized that the most promising new voices can be found in the neglected field of poetry.

Our next issue will appear on January 1.
