StAnza Poetry Festival 2010

Now in its 13th year, Scotland’s International Poetry Festival, which is held 17-21 March at St Andrews, Fife, promises a rich mix of events that will appeal to audiences of all ages. Over five days, more than 50 world-class poets from Scotland, the UK, and beyond these shores will gather to take part in 80 events, along with over 30 writers, musicians, artists and film-makers.
The 2010 festival offers a feast of poetry featuring world-class talents such as Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, Don Paterson, Vicki Feaver, Ben Okri, Jen Hadfield, Matthew Sweeney, Moniza Alvi, Dennis O’Driscoll, Grevel Lindop, Kei Miller, and Linton Kwesi Johnson. Read the full line up here.
StAnza is famous in the UK as a showcase for international poetry and for poetry in languages other than English. The festival attracts the best new Scottish voices, which this year features Shetlandic poets, Christine De Luca, Lise Sinclair and Christie Williamson. And this year’s roster of poets from overseas includes Canadian poet Karen Solie and the Canadian Gaelic poet, Lewis MacKinnon; Victor Rodriguez Núñez from Cuba; Luis Muñoz from Spain; Germany’s Monika Rinke; Austrian poet Andreas Unterweger, and Valerio Magrelli from Italy. Up and coming poets will feature in a showcase of new international talent and there will be a Poetry Breakfast devoted to the subject of getting those new poets’ voices heard.
