Workshop: Art as Activism
Art can be a powerful motivator for social change. Images conjured by language in poems can make a change in the way people view a societal situation. There are many beautiful examples of poetry being used this way. But how do you go about using your poetic voice as a form of activism? During this special workshop, Cristóbal Bianchi, Julio Carrasco and José Joaquin Prieto, founders of Chilean art collective Casagrande, will show you how.
Casagrande has ample experience in using poetry as a form of activism in public spaces, from subway stations to the night sky to outer space.
During the workshop, the members of the collective will show you examples of successful art interventions through poetry and teach you how to use poetry in this way using your own ideas.
Discover how to use poetry to change the world for the better!

The Casagrande Art Collective, an internationally renowned art group from Chile, consisting of four poets who were born during the era of the military coup in Chile. From these experiences, they developed several series of public art interventions, including the Bombing of Poems, which consists of dropping one hundred thousand poems printed as bookmarks over cities that have suffered aerial bombing campaigns during past military confrontations. This intervention has occurred eight times to date in cities around the world, including Santiago de Chile (2001), Guernica (2004), Warsaw (2009), Berlin (2010), London (2012), and Madrid (2018).
