Poetry International is looking for an engaged BOARD MEMBER WITH A PROFILE IN LITERATURE (unpaid)
We are seeking a board member (m/f/x) who, together with the other board members and the office, will further shape the ambitions and future of our foundation. We offer a meaningful and significant role as a co-director in an organization with a 55-year tradition that is both content-wise and organizationally in full development.
ABOUT POETRY INTERNATIONAL
Poetry International is an internationally operating foundation with a Rotterdam heart that celebrates and promotes the love for poetry locally, nationally, and internationally. For over 50 years, we have been at the forefront of the global poetry community, focusing on an audience as diverse as poetry itself. Our main activity is the four-day Poetry International Festival, held annually in June in Rotterdam.
THE BOARD
The foundation's board carries ultimate administrative responsibility and has delegated the preparation and execution of artistic and business policy to the director. The board responsibly fulfils its tasks, adhering to relevant laws and regulations as well as the Code of Cultural Governance, Code of Diversity & Inclusion, and Code of Fair Practice. The foundation is designated as a Public Benefit Organization (ANBI).
The board meets about four times a year. In the upcoming policy period (2025-2028), the board is working towards transformation into a supervisory board. The current board consists of five members. Board members are appointed for a term of four years, with the possibility of extending for one term. In forming the board, we strive for a reflection of society, specifically that of Rotterdam.
PROFILE OF BOARD MEMBER
In addition to general governance qualities, you have a strong connection to the world of poetry and literature. You have a good overview of literary platforms at home and abroad, know the key festivals and institutions, and have relevant contacts within these networks. You understand the current trends from both a literary and societal perspective. You have no personal or professional interests in the programming of poets or other artists, which means you can contribute independently and objectively to festival policy without wanting to overstep the role of the programmers. You think strategically about choices that strengthen the position of Poetry International in the long term, both locally, nationally, and internationally.
