PROLOGUE

You, the stranger, whose face is dimmed by intimacy
spread your body into a net
to hunt me down beneath you, have me dive like a gray animal
to find the passage through which you came to me
before love
flooded the native heaths
with forgetfulness
“I must know who you are, fish-girl” – signal your lips
half turned into frozen corals –
“For if you do not part from me
the girl will be lost in the belly of the fish”.
